Is It A Symptom Of Toxic Mold Exposure?

If you have mold in your home, the health consequences can be staggering. Regardless of your age, you need to be able to recognize when what may seem like a common cold is actually a symptom of toxic mold exposure. Toxic mold exposure can cause extreme medical problems, including severe dermatitis, allergy-like symptoms, and even (in extreme cases) moderate to severe memory loss. Studies have shown that children and the elderly are most likely to exhibit an extreme symptom of toxic mold exposure more readily. If you have children, or aging parents, in your home, be sure to watch them closely for signs that they may have been exposed to mold.

Common Symptoms

There are many symptoms that can mimic a symptom of toxic mold exposure. Unfortunately, this often leads to symptoms going untreated until they become more severe. Many times, people are unaware that they even have mold damage in their homes, unless it has already caused stains on walls and ceilings.

The most common symptom of toxic mold exposure mimics that of the common cold, or spring allergies. Runny or stuffy noses, sore throats, watery eyes, and difficulty breathing are the most common symptoms. If allowed to go untreated, as they often are, these symptoms can lead to much more serious health problems.

Severe Symptoms Of Mold Exposure

If a mild symptom of toxic mold exposure is allowed to go untreated, it will often present itself as a much more severe problem. These more severe symptoms generally include acute upper respiratory infections. Although this type of infection may be diagnosed as a bout of asthma, typically symptoms will not go away, or will continue to get worse if the true cause is not discovered.

If exposure to mold is continued, another symptom of toxic mold exposure may be moderate to severe memory loss. If you, or another member of your family, suddenly find yourself experiencing bouts of memory loss - and this goes especially for those who have experienced other, more mild symptoms of exposure - you should have yourself checked for mold exposure.

In rare cases, the most extreme symptom of toxic mold exposure is death. Although this is extremely rare, it can happen if the exposed is a very young child, or an elderly adult. It is vitally important that you have your home tested for mold damage if you believe that you or your family may be experiencing a symptom of toxic mold exposure. Doing so could well save a precious life!
